Generating and uploading stats with GSAK

Running macros

In the description below I will just tell you to run macros.

If you created buttons just hit them to call the macros.

If you didn’t please hit Macros->Run/Manage. Then select the macro and hit run.

Importing data

  1. Fire up GSAK.
  2. Select your statistics database in the pull-down menu Database.
  3. Import your own finds (you have to be premium member for this)
    1. Log in at geocaching.com
    2. Go to your profile, then click on “Member Features” in the top menu bar.
    3. Call the Pocket Query Generator.
    4. In the middle of the page you’ll find a section “My Finds” with a button “Add to queue”. Hit that button to generate a zip file with all your finds. If the button is not clickable and the font is gray, you ran the query within the last seven days. This query can be run only once in seven days.
    5. Your stats are now sent by email to your account. Download and save the zip file attached to the email to your desktop.
    6. Go to GSAK.
    7. Go to File->Load GPX/LOC/ZIP File
    8. Select the zip file you saved to your desktop and enter the following adjustments:
      • Database: Select your statistics database.
      • Database update options: Newer only
      • How to handle the “additional” Geocaching.com waypoints: As child waypoint
      • do NOT check Clear database before loading, unless you know what you are doing.
      • Found status update options: Always
      • Delete file(s) loaded when finished: I checked it. It deletes the zip file from your desktop after the import. Up to you.
      • User flag: not important (Set user flag)
      • Load type: Load files(s)
      • Found Symbol: leave it as it is (Geocache Found)
      • Update symbol in database: leave it as it is (checked)
      • Country update: empty
      • State update: empty
    9. You can save these settings by hitting “Save” and load them next time by selecting them from the pull-down menu Settings.
    10. Hit “OK”
    11. Now it takes some time and GSAK imports your finds to the database.
  4. Import your own hides (This step has only to be performed for hides not in the statistics database.)
    1. Load your hides in your browser and download the GPX files. Make sure to open them from your browser with GSAK. This way you don’t need to save them in a special folder. The import screen is the same as described above. Use the same settings.
  5. Import logs for your hides
    1. Select your database in the pull-down menu Database.
    2. Create a filter that shows your own hides only. (Hit Search->Filter. Click “Reset All”. Add your login name at “Placed by”. Hit “Go”.)
    3. Run the AddLogs.gsk macro.
    4. Enter your login data.
    5. Enter the following adjustments to the window opening:
      • Check only “Found (all types) in Logs (unless you want to cheat and add all logs to your database)
      • Check “Get OwnerID# from GC.com if NOT found in GSAK DB (open online profile page)?”
      • Select a reasonable Log Cutoff Date. For the first run this date should be the date of publishing and afterwards the date of the last run.
      • Run Options: Check “Set User Flag When Done” and “Move to Next Waypoint When Done”
    6. Hit “Ok”. Now it’ll take some time until all finds of your cache are imported.
    7. I didn’t find a way to run this macro for all my hides, so we have to start it for each on separately. The next one should be selected automatically, so it’s really just running the macro.

Generating and uploading

Run the macro GenUploadStats.gsk and follow the instruction.  Configuring FindStatGen3.gsk takes some time but it’s worth it. It explaining itself pretty good. If you need more information let me know in the comments and I’ll write a HowTo for this too.
