Captain’s Log — Stardate: 20090617
The search for outpost “Rockbridge History #4″ marked our second mission of the day while operating within the Rockbridge Sector.
After the arrival of the U.S.S. Pathfinder, I led an away team down and began our Trek along what locales call the Chessie Nature Trail and found the historical aspects of its origins very interesting.
According to the Chief Helmsman, the actual trail was not only used as an old railway line, but was actually the towpath for a system of river navigation that used locks and dams that allowed canal boats the access up the Maury River (then known as the North River) to the wharfs of Lexington.
This navigation was called the North River Navigation and was connected to that of the James River.
Goods dropped off in Lexington would reach the Richmond via canal boat back in the 19th century.
With regards to our mission, we discovered the outpost without difficulty and made contact with the inhabitants within its interior.
This mission was a wonder chance to renew connections with the history of the region for which we are thankful.
Respectfully,
Capt. Jonathan Hunter
Commanding Officer
U.S.S. Pathfinder
