The Bane of My Existence … No Longer!

Searching @ Constitution ParkI few days ago, I decided to go after the one cache I considered the bane of my existance.

It exists over in Waynesboro, Va., and is hidden very well in a small park called “Constitution Park.”

The name of the cache is “Constitution Park Amendment.”

My name for it was something always kept to myself as it would not be polite to say in mixed company.

Truthfully, I never exactly really hated it so much as felt the frustration of having had it thwart my attempts to find it at least twice … or was it three times?

On Saturday, I set out on a mission to swing by and try at long last to locate it, solving forever the mystery of why it was so hard to find.

Upon my arrival, I was thwarted before I could even park the car as there was someone sitting near where the coordinates always would take me.

Several minutes of waiting left me with the impression that the person (obviously a muggle) had no plans of going anywhere any time soon.

Feeling another bout of defeat, I knew a photography assignment would take me back to Waynesboro the next day.

Is it all that surprising to learn that I chose to plan a break just before that assignment?

When I arrived for that break, I found the place deserted.

Five minutes of searching and I found the cache. It was of a style I did not expect  but had seen something similar recently while caching my way to South Carolina on vacation.

But when something is the bane of your existence, when do you ever know it to go down without a fight?

I found the cache, but the log sheet for it showed names that were a couple of months old.

The problem with this was that the owner of the cache had recently stated that she replaced the original cache (and log) after arriving to check on it and finding the original missing.

It looks like the old cache was still around, just placed back in a completely new spot by either a muggle or geocacher who was not paying attention.

I verified this with the owner within a day of making my find.

She went out and checked the site, verifying the new one was still where it was suppose to be and retrieved the original.

Searching @ Constitution ParkAlthough the find was going to be counted by the owner, it did not feel right to not find the true cache in the true hiding place, so today before photographing a basketball game, I took another brief break and went out to find it using a small flashlight.

The log was signed inside of a couple of minutes.

It is a good feeling to have it at long last … done and completed.
